PROJECT ‘YOUTH DIALOGUE BETWEEN SCHOOLS IN ITALY AND BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA’ (AGENDA 2020-2030)

IN COLLABORATION WITH CESPI (CENTRO STUDI DI POLITICA INTERNAZIONALE), CEI (CENTRAL EUROPEAN INITIATIVE) AND BALKANS AND CAUCASUS OBSERVATORY CLASS INVOLVED: 3 A LSI (Liceo Scientifico Internazionale a Opzione Cinese) “EDUCANDATO STATALE COLLEGIO UCCELLIS” -UDINE- (ITALY) COORDINATORS OF THE PROJECT: PROF. NICOLETTA COSZACH (Maths and Physics teacher and coordinator of LSI) and PROF. BARBARA BELTRAMINI (English language and literature teacher)

On 24th November 2021 we participated to the conclusive event organized by CESPI (Centro Studi di Politica Internazionale). This project was proposed to us by our Principal Anna Maria Zilli and it had its focus on the environmental problems that affect the areas we live in. After being divided by our teachers into two groups, each of them then focused on two different topics, deforestation and urban waste. First of all, the instructions were clear: we had to analyse the problem, its causes and its impact on the territory, besides focusing on the solutions that the local authorities found in order to try, at least, to propose some solutions to the problem within our groups and we were also asked to develop a format which would have included an awareness campaign. In addition, our presentation and the whole project itself had to be in English, because we had to communicate with other schools that would have taken part in the project with us: two classes came from Udine (Liceo ‘Percoto’), one was from Trentino Alto Adige and other two classes came from Bosnia and Herzegovina (in particular from Banja Luka and Sarajevo). It was not only a project on a very current topic, but it also gave us the possibility to interact with young people from other countries. It was a great experience from this point of view, because it is incredibly important to acknowledge the issues going on nowadays in the whole world, especially in Europe, as we are the new generation, the one that is going to be responsible for our planet in the next few years. Furthermore, it was a useful experience, because we are always told by the social media and newspapers about general and abstract solutions about climate change, but with this project we managed to deal with concrete problems that require practical solutions and overall we could broaden our perspective, because we had to search information about the environmental problems that affected our region and so we finally managed to be more informed about what has been happening around us. In conclusion, it was a great event and an educational experience for all of us and we found out many essential facts that we had no idea about. It was certainly relevant for us to talk about these issues from different points of view and we hope this will be the first of many other future projects we could take part in, since they have a real impact on our lifestyle and on the way we look at the world.
